It’s a significant vote of confidence for Australia’s national carrier: Qantas was awarded the best airline in APAC and fifth best airline in the world by Skytrax in its annual awards.
The Flying Kangaroo climbed one spot to ninth from last year, while Virgin fell five places to 43rd, and Jetstar fell one place to 57th.
According to new research, this is even though Australian airlines have among the highest cancellation rates in the world right now.
Qantas has had a rough 2022, with many mishaps (including significant delays around Easter, long wait times for customer service, and the revelation that cabin crew on a Qantas A330 had to sleep across seats in economy) contributing to the airline’s reputation as a poor place to work.
Skytrax World Airline Awards, widely recognised as the “Oscars” of the airline industry, recognised Qantas as having the world’s best business class, economy class, and cabin hygiene.
Qatar Airways came out on top as the best airline in the world overall, followed by Singapore Airlines and Emirates.
