Hawaiian had planned to resume Honolulu-Brisbane operations by the end of April 2022.
The news will be disheartening for Hawaii obsessed Queenslanders, as Hawaiian has been a direct favourite in Brisbane since November 2012.
Due to government entry restrictions enforced at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, HA was forced to cease all flights between Hawaii and Australia in March 2020.
Hawaiian restarted a five-times-weekly service between Sydney and Honolulu on December 13, citing significant demand for Hawaii and Sydney-Honolulu service in the upcoming year.
“This is a difficult decision, but like many other airlines, we find ourselves rebuilding our network in a vastly different operating environment,” said Andrew Stanbury, Hawaiian Airlines Regional Director Australia, and New Zealand.
Neither Qantas nor American Airlines currently provides direct flights from Brisbane to Honolulu. Hawaiian had planned to resume Honolulu-Brisbane operations by the end of April 2022.
Airbus A330 aircraft with 278 seats, 18 lie-flat Premium Cabin business class seats, 68 Extra Comfort seats, and 192 Main Cabin economy seats have resumed service between Sydney and Honolulu as of mid-December.
Virgin Australia has a codeshare agreement with Hawaiian Airlines, allowing travellers from Brisbane and Australia to join those Hawaiian flights in Sydney.
