Skytrax is an airline rating organisation located in the United Kingdom. They award ratings to airlines and airports worldwide based on the quality of their products and service standards.
Lufthansa was awarded the Skytrax Five-Star airline label in 2017, making it the only non-Asian airline to receive such distinction.
This whole process was vague because Lufthansa didn’t receive this rating based on an excellent product; instead, it was given this rating because the airline was anticipating a new long-haul Business Class seat that had been announced but had yet to be installed on any Lufthansa aircraft since it was supposed to be first installed on Lufthansa’s 777X.
In the meantime, Lufthansa continues to fly outmoded aircraft and make several cuts to the economy class interior. According to Skytrax, the airline is now a 4-star carrier.
Skytrax has lowered Lufthansa’s rating from a 5-star airline to a 4-star airline according to their grading system. At the time, Lufthansa’s new business class product, which would not go into service for at least three more years, was a significant factor in the award.
