LATAM Airlines is expanding its Australian footprint with daily non‑stop services from Melbourne to Santiago during peak travel periods, strengthening its role as a key gateway to South America. The move builds on the carrier’s broader capacity uplift from Australia, with both Melbourne and Sydney now seeing daily links into Santiago over the South American summer peak.
From Santiago, travellers can tap into seamless onward connections to more than 150 destinations across Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina, including favourites such as Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Cusco. Schedules are designed to support same‑day connections, minimising layover time and making it easier to build complex South American itineraries off a single long‑haul leg from Melbourne.
An Elevated Long‑Haul Experience

All Melbourne–Santiago flights are operated by LATAM’s Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliner fleet, bringing lower cabin altitude, improved humidity and larger windows to help ease the impact of a 12–13‑hour sector. The aircraft feature LATAM’s latest Premium Business cabin on many routes, with fully flat beds, direct aisle access and a design language inspired by Latin America’s landscapes, from the Pacific coast to the Andes.
Onboard, the experience leans into regional flavour: menus are shaped by emerging South American chefs, while the wine list is curated by Latin America’s only Master Sommelier, Chile’s Héctor Vergara. It means the South American journey effectively begins at the gate in Melbourne, with local ingredients, labels and hospitality setting the tone well before touchdown in Santiago.
More Choice with Premium Comfort and Wi‑Fi

Looking beyond the current schedule, LATAM has flagged the introduction of a new Premium Comfort cabin on select long‑haul routes, including Melbourne–Santiago, from 2027. Positioned between Business and Economy, it will offer wider seats, extra privacy and enhanced amenities, appealing to travellers who want more space without paying full Business fares.
The airline is also progressing the roll‑out of onboard Wi‑Fi across its widebody fleet, with connectivity slated to reach more 787‑9 routes over the coming years. For both leisure and corporate travellers, this will turn the long sector between Melbourne and Santiago into more productive or better‑connected time in the air, rather than a digital blackout.
Designed for Comfort and Connectivity

As the largest airline group in Latin America, LATAM now connects Australia directly into an extensive network covering more than 150 destinations in 25+ countries, spanning five domestic markets in the region plus key gateways in Europe and North America. Daily non‑stop flights from Melbourne to Santiago significantly simplify routing for Australians heading to South America for business, major events or bucket‑list trips such as Patagonia, the Atacama Desert or the Amazon.
With Dreamliner comfort, an upgraded Premium Business product, an upcoming Premium Comfort cabin and growing inflight connectivity, the Melbourne–Santiago route is evolving into a genuinely competitive option for long‑haul travellers. For agents and travellers alike, the combination of daily frequencies and deep regional coverage makes LATAM a compelling one‑stop choice from Melbourne to almost anywhere in South America.
