Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia have announced the kick-off of their alliance formed in May, which will open up markets in Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and extend networks, lounges, and reward programmes with significant benefits for international travellers.
From 12 September 2022, travellers may easily travel across the networks of Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia, expanding their options for travel to over 150 countries. This includes several popular European cities, including London, Paris, Rome, and Athens.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club members may now earn Avios and QPoints on flights operated by Virgin Australia. At the same time, Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer programme members can also earn Velocity Points and Status Credits on flights operated by Qatar Airways.
In addition, customers may now book reward seats on flights provided by both airlines.
While travelling with either airline, Privilege Club and Velocity Frequent Flyer members have access to lounges and additional tier advantages, including priority check-in and boarding.
The airline partnership also plans to provide a new business and small to medium-sized enterprise travel alternative.
Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said, “We are continuing to build our international network, and our guests will have direct access to over 150 destinations globally on the Qatar network, including more connections to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa than we have ever offered.”
Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group Akbar Al Baker said, “Unlike other airlines, we were committed to flying to and from Australia throughout COVID, and now we have increased our presence even more in partnership with our close colleagues at Virgin Australia.”
To celebrate the beginning of this partnership, from now until 5 December 2022, Privilege Club members may earn double Avios on any Virgin Australia flight.
Velocity members may book discounted fares on Qatar Airways’ website between 7 September and 12 October 2022 for select travel until 31 March 2023, as well as join an exclusive draw to become a Velocity Points millionaire by travelling Qatar Airways before 31 December 2022.
