Northern Lights cruises on HANSEATIC nature
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is returning to Scandinavia’s winter landscapes in style, with a series of 15-day “Northern Lights adventure Norway: nature’s light show” voyages aboard the expedition ship HANSEATIC nature, now offered on the attractive SILVER promotional fare. Sailing roundtrip from Hamburg between October 2026 and March 2027, these itineraries are timed for prime aurora viewing and combine extended time along Norway’s fjords and Lofoten with classic winter activities ashore.
Guests can expect long polar nights, snow-covered scenery and excellent opportunities to see the Northern Lights from the ship’s open decks, with the small expedition vessel providing a stable platform for sky-watching away from light pollution. Along the way, the route showcases Norway’s Inside Passage, fjord country and characterful coastal cities, creating a balance of wilderness, small towns and culture.

Northern Lights adventure: what’s included
Marketed under the title “Northern Lights adventure Norway: nature’s light show”, the 15-day expedition focuses on giving guests multiple chances to see the aurora, backed by a program of shore excursions and onboard talks. Highlights typically include:
- Aurora viewing from deck during long winter nights
- Spectacular scenery in Norway’s fjord world and the Lofoten Islands
- Good chances to see whales in the Norwegian Sea
- Calls in architecturally and historically interesting Norwegian cities
- A wide choice of snow-based excursions such as dog-sled rides, reindeer sleigh experiences, snowshoe hikes and more (subject to conditions)
The expedition-style format means a strong focus on time outdoors and flexible programming to make the most of weather and aurora forecasts, while the ship’s size (around 230 guests) keeps the experience intimate by mainstream cruise standards.
SILVER fare: attractive access to a peak-season itinerary
These winter sailings are now available on Hapag-Lloyd’s SILVER fare, the line’s more price-led option within its two-tier pricing structure. Under the SILVER fare, guests receive the same core onboard inclusions as the higher PLATINUM fare—such as gourmet full board, champagne on arrival, a minibar refilled daily, complimentary soft drinks throughout the day from 2026 and 24-hour cabin service—but with a few trade-offs.
With SILVER, the cruise line assigns the cabin or suite and deck, and shore excursions generally become bookable 14 days after publication, in exchange for access to some of the best available pricing on these high-demand voyages. For many travellers focused on the aurora itself rather than specific cabin positions, that makes the Northern Lights itineraries a compelling way to experience a small-ship, German-style expedition cruise at a more approachable fare.
