According to the International Air Transport Association, air travel is showing signs of revival.
According to the organisation, international ticket sales have increased by 11 per cent in the last several weeks compared to this time last year.
The number of tickets sold in the first week of February was 49% of the number sold in the same period in 2019.
According to an IATA report, there are no quarantine or pre-departure testing requirements in 18 of the top 50 air travel markets.
A recent relaxation of travel restrictions in countries such as Australia, France, the Philippines, Switzerland, and Sweden was cited by IATA as a contributing factor to the increase in passengers.
“Momentum towards normalising traffic is building,” IATA director general Willie Walsh said. Travellers who have received their recommended doses of vaccines have the potential to see more of the world with fewer restrictions than they could only a few weeks ago. As a result, an increasing number of people are purchasing tickets. This is excellent news, too! ” Travel restrictions need to be further eased now. Despite recent improvements, the world is still a long way from reaching the levels of connectivity expected in 2019. Twelve of the top 50 travel markets still do not provide easy access to all vaccinated travellers. That includes major economies like China, Japan, Russia, and Indonesia.”
Travellers who are not vaccinated but have a negative pre-departure antigen test have been asked to remove all travel restrictions. Those who are not vaccinated should do so without being quarantined.
What’s more, will this momentum continue amid the conflict in Ukraine?
