Holland America Line’s Flagship Rotterdam to Debut in Mediterranean for Fall 2027 Season
For the first time, Holland America Line’s flagship Rotterdam will sail a series of cruises in the Mediterranean, with bookings now open for fall 2027. The five itineraries span both the Western and Eastern Mediterranean, offering a chance to experience the region through a relaxed, late-season lens.
New Cruises Combine Marquee Destinations with Immersive Itineraries
The 10- and 11-day voyages call at a mix of standout destinations, from Lisbon and Naples to Kotor, Rhodes and Alexandria. Select itineraries include scenic cruising through the Strait of Messina and past Stromboli, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Sailings can also be combined into longer itineraries, allowing guests to experience a broader mix of the Mediterranean. The season concludes with a 14-day transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale.
Seeing the Flagship in Iconic Ports for the First Time
Paul Grigsby, vice president of revenue planning for Holland America Line, noted that guests love sailing on Rotterdam and the Mediterranean is always in high demand. There’s something really special about seeing the flagship sailing in iconic ports like Bilbao, Naples and Rhodes for the first time, and it’s a moment Holland America Line is excited to share with guests.
Premium Onboard Experience with Immersive Shore Excursions
In addition to Holland America Line’s premium onboard experience, guests can explore the Mediterranean through shore excursions in each port. Options range from visiting the ancient ruins of Ephesus from Kusadasi in Turkey to touring Italy’s Pompeii from Naples or wandering Montenegro’s medieval streets of Kotor’s Old Town. Choices include guided city tours and more immersive experiences that connect guests to destinations in meaningful ways.
Expanding Fall and Winter Mediterranean Programming
The addition of Rotterdam builds on Holland America Line’s commitment to European cruising and broader Mediterranean presence for fall 2027 through winter 2028, with more than 20 sailings available across Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam, Oosterdam and Zuiderdam. Itineraries are designed to offer more time ashore, with a mix of marquee ports and less-visited destinations alongside extended stays that allow for deeper exploration.

Why Rotterdam’s Mediterranean Debut Stands Out
Rotterdam’s Mediterranean debut stands out for its fall 2027 launch being the first time the flagship sails in the region, with five itineraries spanning both Western and Eastern Mediterranean. The 10- and 11-day voyages call at standout destinations including Lisbon, Naples, Kotor, Rhodes and Alexandria, while scenic cruising through the Strait of Messina and past Stromboli adds volcanic drama.
Sailings can be combined into longer itineraries for broader Mediterranean exploration, and the season concludes with a transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale. Iconic ports like Bilbao, Naples and Rhodes welcome the flagship for the first time, shore excursions offer immersive experiences from Ephesus to Pompeii to Kotor’s Old Town, and the programming extends through winter 2028 with more than 20 sailings across four ships. More time ashore with marquee and less-visited ports plus extended stays allows deeper exploration.
For travellers who want to experience the Mediterranean through a relaxed, late-season lens with Holland America Line’s premium onboard experience and immersive shore excursions, Rotterdam’s fall 2027 Mediterranean debut offers a unique opportunity to see the flagship in iconic ports for the first time.
