Princess Cruises’ latest marvel, the Star Princess, has just achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing its sea trials, setting the stage for its much-anticipated debut on October 4, 2025. Built by the renowned Fincantieri shipyard, this stunning Sphere-Class vessel departed Monfalcone, Italy, for the Adriatic Sea to undergo rigorous testing including steering, navigation systems, and propulsion performance.
As the second ship in Princess’ fleet powered by eco-friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG), Star Princess demonstrates a major commitment to sustainability without compromising luxury or performance. Equipped with two Azipod propulsion units allowing 360-degree thrust and four controllable pitch bow thrusters for superb maneuverability, the ship combines cutting-edge technology with an elegant design to optimise energy efficiency and guest comfort.
Captain Gennaro Arma, a seasoned veteran with 27 years at Princess Cruises and leader of the Sphere-Class construction team, proudly led the trials. Heading a dedicated crew of 1,600 as Star Princess finalises its outfitting, he shared, “I’m extremely impressed with the ship’s navigation capabilities and maneuverability. We can’t wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall.”
Weighing in at 177,800 tons and designed to accommodate 4,300 guests, Star Princess is a sister ship to the acclaimed Sun Princess. Guests will luxuriate in over 1,500 balcony staterooms offering panoramic ocean views and access to 30 distinct dining and bar venues. The ship features a next-generation relaxation and entertainment area called The Dome, the technologically advanced theater The Arena, and the architectural centerpiece The Piazza, with sweeping ocean vistas framed by its dramatic curves and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Adding a touch of Hollywood glamour, Star Princess also offers Spellbound by Magic Castle®, a captivating speakeasy experience created in collaboration with the legendary Magic Castle™.
The inaugural season promises a variety of spectacular voyages through the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Panama Canal, and Alaska.
