Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has announced the launch of the Singapore Airlines Foundation, a new initiative aimed at supporting individuals and communities in need within Singapore and contributing to the growth of the country’s aviation industry.
The foundation, funded by an SIA endowment of S$30 million, will operate as a company limited by guarantee. This move continues the Group’s commitment to global community service.
The foundation will kick off with two essential programmes:
The Youth Uplift Programme
A beacon of hope for students from underprivileged backgrounds, this transformative programme offers financial aid and a pathway to a brighter future. Studying at Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) colleges, polytechnics, or universities, participants will gain invaluable industry experience through traineeships with the SIA Group, courses from the Singapore Airlines Academy, and mentorship from SIA employees. Applications are set to open in July 2024, beginning a life-changing journey. The Youth Outreach Programme: Designed for upper secondary and junior college students, this programme provides a five-day immersive experience with the SIA Group during school holidays. It aims to spark interest in the aviation industry through hands-on, behind-the-scenes exposure to the Group’s operations.
Mr. Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, reiterated that the establishment of the foundation is a significant milestone in SIA Group’s history of community service. “The Singapore Airlines Foundation will not only support those in need but also inspire and empower the next generation of aviation professionals, contributing to the long-term growth of Singapore’s air hub,” said Mr Goh, underlining the foundation profound impact and the Group’s unwavering commitment.
The SIA Group’s commitment to community support is further evidenced by its various initiatives that nurture talent, promote the arts, encourage environmental stewardship, and assist vulnerable groups, including children, youth, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.
In its 70th anniversary year, SIA raised S$2.55 million for Community Chest, and in 2023, it helped raise S$2.6 million for agencies supporting communities with special needs through the SIA Cares fundraising drive.
