To commemorate the return of Aircalin‘s direct flights to New Caledonia, the check-in gate at Melbourne Airport was transformed into a beach paradise.
Distinguished guests were greeted by the Head of Aviation, Jim Parashos, to mark the occasion.
The Aircalin Melbourne-Noumea flights are 3.5 hours long and will run three times a week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with the option to connect to the islands of Mare, Lifou, Ouvea, or Isle of Pines on the same ticket.
Melbourne Airport is once again serving 36 international airlines, the same number as before the pandemic, with the return of Aircalin after more than three years.
The airport has achieved a first for an airport in an Australian major city—its international market capacity has surpassed 100% of its pre-pandemic levels.
Additionally, on 5 December, Aircalin, the national airline of New Caledonia, began operating a second weekly service via Fiji (Nadi) between Noumea and Papeete, French Polynesia.
The new flight is a component of a significant regional effort to improve links between Pacific island nations and to strengthen the cultural, historical, and economic bonds that already exist among them.
July was the month that saw Aircalin’s return to Singapore with its Airbus A330-900 neo aircraft.
