New Emirates Wildlife Amenity Kits Emphasise Endangered Species

 Emirates Premium Economy and Economy Class travellers on long-haul flights throughout the world will soon get new complimentary amenity kits. The amenity kits were created working together with United for Wildlife to highlight eight of the world’s most endangered species.

The conservation of animals and habitats is an essential aspect of the Emirates Environmental Sustainability Framework. Emirates’ long-standing partnership with United for Wildlife, as well as its commitment to raising awareness about endangered species and preventing the illicit trafficking of wildlife and wildlife products, will be emphasised in the new amenity kit range. The animals shown on the kit pouches and bookmarks are green sea turtles, African elephants, blue macaws, gorillas, hammerhead sharks, lions, pangolins, and black rhinos.

United for Wildlife has shared some eye-opening facts that emphasise the scope of the problem, such as the fact that 100 elephants are poached every day worldwide, indicating that elephants might become extinct in the wild by 2025 if poaching rates continue. There are presently about 30,000 rhinos living in the wild, compared to 500,000 at the beginning of the twentieth century. Meanwhile, pangolins are the world’s most trafficked mammals.

Emirates is a United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce member and is actively committed to the fight against illicit wildlife trafficking and exploitation. Emirates has zero tolerance for the illegal trafficking of wildlife and wildlife products, and its freight arm, Emirates SkyCargo, has enforced a blanket prohibition on elephant, rhinoceros, lion, and tiger shooting trophies. Emirates reaffirmed its commitment to environmentally acceptable practises in June 2023 when it received IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Stage One and IEnvA Illegal Wildlife Trade module certifications.

The new Emirates wildlife amenity kit pouches are reusable and made of washable kraft paper, with bespoke pictures of animals printed in non-toxic soy-based ink. The contents include a variety of long-lasting travel necessities produced from materials that decrease the usage of virgin plastic. The toothbrush is composed of wheat straw and plastic, while the socks and eyeshades are made of recycled plastic, which is rPET (recycled polythene terephthalate). Due to popular customer demands, Emirates will reintroduce earplugs into amenity kits towards the end of the year.
