Then there were two: The next memorable journey has begun as Royal Caribbean International celebrated the first milestone – the first cut of steel – for the second ship in the groundbreaking Icon Class.
A steel-cutting ceremony was performed at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, to commemorate the next in the line-up of the world’s greatest family holidays. The yet-to-be-named ship will sail in 2025, after the Icon of the Seas premiere in January 2024.
The Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku crews working on the second Icon Class ship were present for the traditional steel-cutting ceremony.
The significant milestone marks the formal start of construction, kicking off a succession of crucial moments in the design and construction process that will last months and include hundreds of innovators from design, naval engineering, architecture, and other fields.
Royal Caribbean’s next ship, along with a third in the Icon Class, will join Icon in announcing a new age of holidays for years to come. Each ship will be a blend of the finest of every holiday, from the resort getaway to the beach escape and theme park experience, where every family member and style of vacationer can build memories together on their terms without compromise.
When the first look at Icon and Icon Class was presented in October 2022, it grabbed headlines. The overwhelmingly positive response resulted in Royal Caribbean International’s single greatest booking day in its 53-year history.
