Cunard Queen Elizabeth ship headed for Bali has been redirected to Fremantle following a covid outbreak on board.
The Queen Elizabeth, a Cunard ship, departed Sydney on the 15th of November, made stops at Arlie Beach, Cairns, Port Douglas, and Darwin, and was due in Bali Monday before continuing to Perth.
The Western Australian government told ABC News that the schedule was derailed when 10 and 15 per cent of the ship’s more than 2000 passengers tested positive for COVID.
A representative for Cunard said the decision to scrap the ship’s call in Bali followed ongoing talks with Balinese officials.
According to the spokesperson, “in light of this, we will sail into Fremantle in the next days as scheduled.”
On Wednesday, the 30th of November, the ship will make its way to Fremantle.
Cunard’s parent company, Carnival Corporation, recently reintroduced vaccination and mask regulations on its Australian ships in light of a recent surge in cases of numbers across the country.
A spokesperson confirmed that all passengers above 12 were mandated to get vaccinated, with the remaining 5% reserved for those with medical exemptions.
All passengers aboard the Queen Elizabeth are offered a free RAT test. Those who test positive must remain in isolation for five days unless they have a negative test result.
