Air India Announces Six New European and US destinations

Air India, controlled by the multinational conglomerate Tata, is pushing forwards with its intentions to increase its domestic and international destinations. The airline announced that it will commence direct flights between Mumbai, New York, Paris, and Frankfurt in February 2023.

Air India has also announced the resumption of nonstop flights between Delhi, Milan, Copenhagen, and Vienna. On 14 February of next year, Air India will begin offering nonstop flights between Mumbai and New York (JFK International Airport). Air India claims it is making progress in its plan to increase its fleet size by leasing new aircraft and reintroducing older aircraft previously retired from service.

Air India is experiencing a need for more pilots and flight attendants as it expands internationally. The airline is trying to address the issue by recruiting foreign pilots and offering voluntary retirement to its cabin crew as part of its Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) for permanent workers earlier this year. The offer is valid until 31 January 2023.

“Our global network, which links major cities in India to many more locations, will be bolstered as part of our five-year transformation strategy, Vihaan.AI. These additional nonstop routes to New York, Milan, Vienna, Copenhagen, Paris, and Frankfurt are an important part of that process, which will pick up speed as our fleet of planes grows,” said the airline’s CEO and MD, Campbell Wilson.

According to the announcement, Air India will begin nonstop service between Mumbai and New York City, bringing the total number of weekly nonstop flights between India and the United States operated by the airline to 47. Currently, the airline operates daily flights from Delhi to New York and four flights per week to Newark Liberty airport.

Starting 1 February 2023, Air India will begin offering four weekly flights between Delhi and Milan. On 18 February 2023, the airline will begin offering three weekly flights between Delhi and Vienna, and on 1 March 2023, it will begin offering four weekly flights between Delhi and Copenhagen.

It was also announced that beginning in the next quarter, new flights to Paris (three times per week) and Frankfurt (four times per week) will also be available from Mumbai. The B787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, which features 18 Business Class and 238 Economy Class seats, will be used for all these flights by Air India. As a result of this resumption, Air India will provide nonstop service to seven destinations throughout Europe, with 48 weekly flights to the United Kingdom and 31 weekly flights to the Continent.
