Virgin Australia Resumes Services to New Zealand

Virgin Australia has returned to New Zealand after an absence of nearly a thousand days. On 2 November, Virgin Australia resumed its New Zealand operations with flights from Sydney and Brisbane to Queenstown International Airport. On 4 November, two days later, regular service between Melbourne and Queenstown began.

Services in Sydney and Brisbane will run seven days a week, whereas those in Melbourne will run only four times a week (increasing to daily between 12 December 2022 – 29 January 2023).

Passengers on board Virgin Australia’s inaugural flight from Brisbane, were treated to “Peace Pavlovas” as a tribute to the friendly rivalry between Australians and New Zealanders over who invented the dessert.

Our first flight to New Zealand in nearly two years is a significant milestone for Virgin Australia,” said Jayne Hrdlicka, CEO of Virgin Australia Group.

According to Alistair Hartley, Group Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for Virgin Australia, “high demand throughout our international network over the Christmas school holiday period” is something the company is just seeing.

“Our flights to Queenstown will increase to 21 per week between 12 December and 29 January, with a daily service operating from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to help meet the demand,” he added.
