Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia’s flag carrier, will restart its Jakarta-Melbourne flights to the Victorian capital on 23 November 2022. After the relaxation of travel restrictions, the decision to resume the route is intended to meet market demand for international corporate and leisure travel, particularly in Australia.
Garuda Indonesia will operate the twice-weekly service using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a capacity of 251 passengers, consisting of 36 business class and 215 economy class seats.
“The re-opening of the Melbourne service is one of Garuda Indonesia’s efforts to optimise the momentum of the national economic recovery, particularly through the tourist sector,” stated Garuda Indonesia President & CEO Irfan Setiaputra.
The route, which positions Jakarta as the hub, meets the desire for more diversified connectivity throughout the archipelago and provides smooth connections to other major Indonesian destinations such as Denpasar, Yogyakarta, and Lombok. Kualanamu, and Surabaya.”
“Indonesia is a key market for Melbourne Airport,” stated Jim Parashos, Chief of Aviation at Melbourne Airport. The reintroduction of Garuda Indonesia services to Jakarta and onward to Bali would allow Victorians to visit and enjoy more Indonesian destinations.
As Australia’s biggest neighbour, the nonstop service to Jakarta would benefit Australians and Indonesians on vacation or visiting family and friends, and it will also enhance trade between the two countries, including in the education sector.”
Flight GA716 will depart Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta International Airport at 21:00hrs LT every Wednesday and Saturday evening, landing at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport at 07:35hrs LT the following morning. Every Thursday and Sunday, flight GA717 will depart Melbourne at 09:10hrs LT, arriving in Jakarta at 12:15hrs LT in time for connecting flights to other destinations.
