Adults‑Only Seas Ahead
If you like your sea days kid‑free and your nights a little bit playful, Marella Cruises just dropped some good news. From winter 2027, Marella Discovery 2 will become a permanently adults‑only ship, joining the growing wave of lines designing cruises specifically around grown‑ups.
Family Zones Reimagined for Grown‑Ups
Instead of simply removing the kids’ clubs and calling it a day, Marella is completely reimagining those spaces. Discovery 2’s former family zones are being transformed into four new venues: a moody speakeasy bar, a puzzle‑packed escape room, a dedicated karaoke room and even an adults‑only arts and crafts area for anyone who likes their sea days with a side of creativity.
Canary Islands Homeport — Winter Sun Sorted
The timing lines up with a big deployment shift, too. During the winter 2027–2028 season, Marella Discovery 2 will home port in the Canary Islands, sailing from Tenerife and Gran Canaria from November 2027 to March 2028, before moving to Malaga from March to April 2028. It’s a very sunshine‑forward, easy‑fly hub setup for UK and European guests chasing winter warmth without the long‑haul slog.
Atlantic Fusion — A Route with a Twist
One of the headline itineraries of this program is the new seven‑night “Atlantic Fusion” cruise. Sailing round‑trip from Las Palmas, it blends classic Canary favourites like Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma with a call at Agadir in Morocco, adding a dash of North African colour and cuisine into the mix. It’s the sort of route that feels familiar enough for first‑timers, but different enough for repeat Canaries cruisers who want something more than a carbon‑copy loop.
Part of a Broader Adults‑Only Trend
Marella’s move sits within a much bigger trend: cruise lines deliberately carving out space for adults who want calm, cocktails and culture rather than water slides. Oceania Cruises has already confirmed it will transition to an 18‑plus model for all new bookings from 7 January 2026, making its entire fleet adults‑only going forward—a decision the line says is driven by guest feedback and a desire for a consistently tranquil onboard experience.
More Choice for Modern Travellers
For travellers, that means more choice at both ends of the spectrum: ships where kids are centred and celebrated, and ships where you can order another round in the speakeasy, sing your lungs out in a late‑night karaoke room, or crack clues in an escape room without worrying about the bedtime routine. Marella Discovery 2’s adults‑only makeover leans hard into that second camp—and if you’ve ever secretly wished the “quiet area” extended to the whole ship, this might be your moment.
A Grown‑Up Getaway, Reimagined
Marella Discovery 2’s transformation is more than a rebrand; it’s a thoughtful repurposing of onboard space to meet a clear market desire for adult‑focused respite and playful sophistication. For luxury travellers seeking relaxed days, lively evenings and itineraries that prioritise culture and comfort, this adults‑only ship offers an appealing new option—one where privacy, personality and a night out are all part of the voyage.
