AmaWaterways has announced the most ambitious expansion in its history, outlining plans to grow its global fleet to more than 50 river cruise ships by 2032 in its largest single growth investment to date. Building on a current fleet of 31 ships, the line will add 15 new vessels in Europe and increase capacity by more than 60 percent outside Europe, including new ships in Africa and Asia.
This strategic growth underscores AmaWaterways’ position as a leader in luxury river cruising, responding to strong demand across North America, Europe and emerging markets and to consistently high repeat and guest satisfaction rates.
Largest growth investment in AmaWaterways’ history
By 2032, AmaWaterways expects to operate more than 50 ships worldwide, nearly doubling its fleet and significantly increasing its global footprint. Key elements of the plan include:
- 15 new ships in Europe, on top of the 31‑strong fleet already in operation.
- More than 60 percent capacity growth beyond Europe, with additional vessels on the Nile and Chobe and expansion on the Mekong.
- A pipeline of ships launching every year from 2026 onwards, ensuring a steady cadence of new product for guests and travel partners.
In Europe, the line had already confirmed eight new ships and is now adding seven more, including one on the Douro River in Portugal, reflecting sustained demand on classic rivers and newer hotspots.
New ships and where they will sail

As part of the expansion, AmaWaterways has confirmed a series of named newbuilds across Europe, Africa and Asia.
On the Nile and in Africa
- AmaNubia – Debuting September 2026 on the Nile, joining AmaDahlia and AmaLilia. The ship will feature 38 staterooms inspired by Egyptian artistry and textures.
- AmaCleo – Launching in 2028 on the Nile, further expanding AmaWaterways’ Egyptian programme alongside AmaDahlia, AmaLilia and AmaNubia.
- Additional Chobe River ship – The brand is advancing plans for a second vessel on the Chobe River in Africa, sailing alongside Zambezi Queen to meet rising demand in Southern Africa.
In Europe
- AmaRudi – Debuting in 2027 as AmaWaterways’ second double‑width ship on the Danube, following AmaMagna. Designed for 196 guests across 98 staterooms, it will further redefine space and comfort on this key river.
- AmaFiora – Launching in 2027 on the Rhine, following the design and layout of AmaSofia, with 76 staterooms.
- AmaClara – Debuting in 2028 on the Rhône in France, mirroring the design of AmaKristina, with 76 staterooms.
- AmaGaia – Entering service in 2028 on the Douro in Portugal, sailing alongside AmaVida, AmaDouro and AmaSintra in response to robust demand for Portugal river cruises.
In Asia
- AmaMaya – Launching in 2027 on the Mekong, with 60 staterooms and a design inspired by Indochine heritage, aligned with current Mekong ship AmaDara.
These newbuilds complement three previously announced ships arriving in 2027 across the Rhine, Danube and Mekong, further strengthening AmaWaterways’ presence on the world’s most popular river cruising regions.
