Swan Hellenic has announced a major expansion of its West Africa expedition program, unveiling two immersive Grand Voyages for fall 2026 and a much broader choice of itineraries for spring and fall 2027. The new collection reinforces the cruise line’s reputation for reaching remote and culturally rich destinations that few other operators visit.
For travellers who value deep destination immersion, the line is offering itineraries that can be linked into longer personal odysseys. In fall 2026, the two voyages can be combined into a 26-day journey from Dakar to Luanda, covering 14 countries and 18 ports.
What’s new for 2026
The fall 2026 program includes two West Africa sailings aboard SH Diana. The first is Atlantic Crossroads: Cruise from Senegal to Ghana, sailing from Dakar to Tema, while the second is West Africa Cruise from Ghana to Angola, continuing from Tema to Luanda. These voyages focus on history, culture and natural landscapes, including UNESCO-listed sites, colonial landmarks and remote coastlines.
Highlights include Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle in Ghana, the Bijagós Biosphere Reserve, Benin’s Ganvie stilt village, Gabon’s Loango National Park and Angola’s Ilha dos Tigres. Swan Hellenic says these itineraries are designed to deliver meaningful connection through expert-led enrichment, local partnerships and carefully curated expedition experiences.
What’s coming in 2027
The 2027 West Africa season is even broader, with nine cruises across two seasons. Spring 2027 features four northbound voyages that can be linked into a 46-day itinerary from Cape Town to Lisbon, while fall 2027 offers five southbound cruises that can be combined into a 51-day voyage from Lisbon to Cape Town.
This expansion gives guests more flexibility to explore the coastline in sections or as a longer, more ambitious grand voyage. It also reflects Swan Hellenic’s growing experience in the region after four consecutive years of operating in West Africa.
Why this matters
Swan Hellenic’s West Africa program stands out because it combines expedition cruising with strong cultural storytelling. Rather than focusing only on scenic sailings, the line is highlighting places with historical significance, biodiversity and local community engagement.
That approach is especially relevant in West Africa, where destinations such as Loango National Park, Banc d’Arguin and Ilha dos Tigres offer a mix of wildlife, wilderness and heritage. For luxury cruise travellers seeking something genuinely different, this is one of the most distinctive regional programs now on sale.
About SH Diana
All of these voyages will be operated by SH Diana, Swan Hellenic’s boutique expedition ship carrying 192 guests in 96 staterooms and suites, most with balconies. The ship is equipped with a spa, gym, panoramic sauna, pool, three dining venues, a lecture theatre and both tenders and expedition Zodiacs for remote landings.
That smaller ship size is a key advantage on this itinerary, allowing access to off-the-beaten-track ports and expedition areas while maintaining a high level of comfort. For readers who enjoy intimate, destination-focused cruising, SH Diana is a strong fit for these voyages.
