The second Sphere-class ship from Princess Cruises will debut in the Mediterranean in August 2025. The Cruise Line has finally announced the vessel’s name.
The Fincantieri shipyard in Italy is hard at work on the gigantic 4,300-passenger cruise ship that will launch in 2024 as the sister ship of the upcoming Sun Princess.
The second ship in Princess Cruises’ Sphere-class fleet was named last Friday. Star Princess is the official name for the new 175,500-ton vessel. Star Princess, now under construction at Italy’s Monfalcone Fincantieri shipyard, will be the second biggest ship in the Princess fleet after the Sun Princess.
The cutting-edge LNG-powered cruise ship’s air lubrication technology will reduce hull drag and boost fuel efficiency. The ship’s layout provides guests with a one-of-a-kind holiday, blending classic Princess touches with fresh, seaward vistas.
When asked about the upcoming addition, Princess Cruises president John Padgett said, “There’s much to be admired about Star Princess — her sleek, eye-catching design, spacious interiors, and of course, the remarkable views of the sea and sky, just like the features found on Sun Princess that have prompted cruise lovers to snap up inaugural year bookings.”
We wanted our guests to feel at home aboard these ships, so we took special care to incorporate touches of familiarity throughout the design.
The Star Princess is 20% bigger than the current fleet of existing ships, yet it will still include the same intimate atmosphere for which Princess is known.
The vessel will include new areas, such as the Piazza with its glass sphere and The Dome, an entertainment facility modelled by the Santorinian terraces. The Princess Arena, a state-of-the-art venue, and the magnificent dining room where the wake will be held will include breathtaking scenery.
Princess Cruises will provide additional information about its newest vessel in the upcoming months.
New dining and beverage options, a larger casino, a two-story Lotus Spa, and Cirque Éloize-led shows are just a few of the ship-exclusive additions that will debut on Star Princess’ second Sphere-Class vessel.
Aerial hoops, poles, bungees, the Cyr wheel, silks, incredible contortion, and many more will be featured in each Cirque Éloize performance, along with music and a wide range of special effects.
On 4 August 2025, Star Princess will make her maiden voyage, a nine-day round-trip from Rome to Greece that stops at Corfu, Kotor, Mykonos, Santorini, and Naples, from which passengers may go to Capri and Pompeii.
After setting sail from Rome, Athens, or Trieste, passengers can choose from a variety of 9- and 10-day cruises that visit several Mediterranean places. Star Princess cruise reservations will be available beginning 1 June 2023 as part of Princess’s Europe 2025 programme rollout.
Meanwhile, the Sun Princess, the Star Princess’s sister ship, will debut in the United States in October 2024. Sun Princess will be based out of Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale, beginning in October 2024 after a season of Mediterranean and European voyages (February – September 2024).
