Tokyo has no shortage of art, but this summer, one of its most stylish new addresses is turning hospitality itself into a living gallery. From 1 July to 30 September 2026, Janu Tokyo welcomes The GUESTS—an imaginative exhibition by acclaimed French artist Jean Jullien that invites luxury travellers into a world where art, design and playfulness quietly collide.
Set within the architectural elegance of Azabudai Hills, the hotel becomes more than a place to stay—it becomes part of the artwork itself.
When art checks in
Jullien’s signature PAPER PEOPLE—ten life-sized, vividly coloured figures—have “checked in” across the hotel, appearing in unexpected corners and social spaces. One might be gazing out toward Tokyo Tower from Janu Grill, another lounging poolside at the wellness centre, as if casually inhabiting the rhythm of the hotel.
There is something disarmingly charming about them. Flat yet expressive, whimsical yet thoughtful, they blur the line between guest and artwork—an idea Jullien leans into with quiet humour.
“They’re flat but colourful. And a bit lost,” he notes. “If you see one, don’t be a stranger.”
A natural homecoming

While the exhibition feels fresh, it also marks a return. Jullien’s PAPER PEOPLE first debuted in Tokyo in 2021, and their evolution through cities like Paris and Seoul makes this latest chapter feel like a homecoming—now elevated within one of Tokyo’s most design-forward luxury hotels.
Crafted using Pyrex to preserve the delicacy of paper while adding sculptural presence, the figures create a striking contrast against Janu Tokyo’s contemporary interiors. The result is both playful and poetic—fragility meeting precision, spontaneity meeting design.
A stay shaped by creativity
For guests, the experience extends well beyond observation. Janu Tokyo’s “Hide and Seek” accommodation offer transforms the exhibition into a fully immersive stay.
Over two nights, guests can expect:
- A curated surprise gift inspired by Jean Jullien’s work.
- Exclusive collaboration cookies from Janu Patisserie.
- A seasonal multi-course dinner at Janu Grill, themed around the exhibition.
It is a thoughtful layering of art, gastronomy and hospitality—designed to feel personal, not performative.
Where luxury meets lightness

Janu, Aman’s more contemporary sibling brand, is built on connection, energy and cultural immersion—and this collaboration captures that spirit effortlessly. There is a sense of lightness here that feels refreshing in the luxury space: less formality, more curiosity.
You might arrive expecting a refined Tokyo stay—and leave having shared it with a cast of quietly joyful, slightly mysterious characters.
Because sometimes, the most memorable luxury experiences are the ones that don’t take themselves too seriously.
