National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is set to make waves in the European river cruise market with the introduction of their first-ever river sailings in 2026. This exciting launch includes two new Rhine itineraries, which will be available for public bookings starting 20 May 2025. Past guests can enjoy early access to these unique voyages.
Introducing Connect: The Newest Addition to the Fleet
The centerpiece of this launch is Connect, a newly built, state-of-the-art European river vessel. With an aerodynamic design and expansive sundeck, Connect is designed to offer an unparalleled cruising experience. This 120-guest ship, constructed in 2025, will host two eight-day expedition-style cruises, sailing between Amsterdam and Brussels, and Cologne and Basel.
A Pioneering Spirit
Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions, describes the new river offering as a “bold new vision” for the brand. “These new itineraries are crafted with the same pioneering spirit that defines our expeditions around the world,” Leahy said.
Scenic Sauna Views
One of the standout features of Connect is its river-facing sauna, which offers panoramic views of Europe’s historic towns—allowing guests to enjoy the scenery without leaving the heat.
Expanding Horizons
This marks the first time Lindblad Expeditions has ventured into the European river cruise market, adding to their impressive portfolio that includes the Peruvian Amazon, the Nile, and North America’s Columbia and Snake Rivers. All voyages will follow Lindblad’s standard expedition format, staffed by an Expedition Leader, National Geographic Experts, and Field Staff. Guests can expect expert-led shore excursions, exclusive access to cultural experiences, and curated onboard dining.
Suite Life Onboard

Connect boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the Rhine right into the lounge. Each of the 210 square feet staterooms can convert into a stunning two-room suite with a living room, two full baths, and much more.
Two New Rhine Itineraries
Lindblad has unveiled two distinct eight-day voyages for its inaugural European season:
- Rhine River: Castles, Culture and Culinary Delights
- Sail through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a private reception hosted by the lord of Rheinstein Castle.

A New Ship Joins the Fleet
The chartering of Connect marks a significant expansion of Lindblad Expeditions’ cruise portfolio. Purpose-built for European river cruising, Connect features floor-to-ceiling windows, environmentally conscious technology, and modern onboard amenities. Its addition brings the Lindblad fleet to 23 owned and chartered, mission-built expedition ships operated globally under the National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions co-brand.
