Viking takes delivery of two new river ships
Viking has added Viking Annar and Viking Fjolvar to its award-winning European river fleet, marking another step in the line’s long-term expansion strategy. The two new Longships were built in Germany and are designed to bring more travellers into Viking’s signature river cruising style across the Rhine, Main, Danube and Seine. You can explore the brand and its voyages on the official website: Viking.
The new ships reinforce Viking’s position as one of the most recognisable names in river cruising. With Scandinavian design, efficient layouts and itineraries focused on culture and history, the line continues to grow its footprint across Europe in a way that feels both measured and deliberate.
Viking Annar on the Rhine, Main and Danube
Viking Annar will carry 190 guests in 95 staterooms and sail itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Built specifically for these waterways, the ship includes Viking’s patented square bow, three full decks and the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, plus asymmetrical corridors that allow for true two-room suites.
The ship will operate popular itineraries such as Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Passage to Eastern Europe, European Sojourn and Christmas on the Rhine. That makes it a strong addition for travellers who want a classic European river cruise with the comfort and consistency Viking is known for.
Viking Fjolvar on the Seine

Viking Fjolvar is built for the Seine River and will host 168 guests in 84 staterooms. It also has the advantage of docking at Viking’s exclusive location in the heart of Paris, which is a major perk for guests starting or ending a journey in the French capital.
The ship will sail roundtrip from Paris on itineraries including Paris & the Heart of Normandy and the new Christmastime in Paris & Normandy. For travellers drawn to France, that combination of central access and scenic river routing is especially appealing.
A growing fleet for the future
These deliveries are part of Viking’s broader growth plan, which remains focused on steady, long-term expansion rather than rapid one-off launches. Based on its current orderbook, the company expects to receive 22 more river ships by 2028, along with nine additional ocean ships by 2031 and two expedition ships by 2031.
That would bring Viking to 114 river ships in 2028 and 26 ocean and expedition ships in 2031, a scale that underlines just how dominant the brand has become in experiential travel. For travellers, that means more departures, more routing options and more chances to cruise Europe in Viking style.
