Atlas Ocean Voyages is entering a bold new era of eco‑conscious exploration with Atlas Adventurer, its first‑ever luxury expedition sailing yacht slated to debut in late 2028. Purpose‑built for global discovery, this next‑generation Atlas‑class vessel blends solid sails, hybrid propulsion and all‑suite accommodation to push luxury expedition cruising into the future.
A New Atlas‑Class Luxury Expedition Sailing Yacht
Atlas Adventurer is a 26,000‑gross‑ton, 690‑foot luxury expedition sailing yacht that marks a major milestone in Atlas Ocean Voyages’ growth beyond its World‑class fleet. The ship is designed as an eco‑friendly exploration platform, featuring a trio of carbon masts with precision‑engineered solid sails that work in concert with dual‑fuel Wärtsilä engines and electric‑hybrid propulsion. When sea and wind conditions allow, Atlas Adventurer will be capable of near‑silent, zero‑emission cruising, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to environmentally responsible expedition travel.
Engineered for both polar and warm‑water regions, the yacht carries Ice Class 1B (Polar Category C) capability, a reinforced hull, zero‑speed fin stabilisers and two vertical fin stabilisers for comfort at anchor and under way. A powerful 9‑megawatt marine battery system enables high speeds even in light winds and supports “acoustically invisible” operation when sailing under wind power.
Sustainability Meets Advanced Technology
Atlas describes Atlas Adventurer as a bridge between 15th‑century wind mastery and 21st‑century clean‑energy innovation. The three carbon‑fibre masts and solid sails harness wind as a genuine propulsion source rather than a decorative feature, while the hybrid system and battery bank are designed to comply with upcoming zero‑emission port regulations and access sensitive destinations with a minimal footprint.
This combination of solid sails, dual‑fuel engines and large‑scale batteries allows the yacht to operate with reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions and quieter navigation, especially important in wildlife‑rich and remote expedition regions. It also supports one of Atlas’s core promises: a more immersive guest experience, where the focus is on the sounds of nature rather than the hum of engines.
All‑Suite Comfort and Elevated Onboard Life
Atlas Adventurer will carry up to 400 guests with a crew of 275, delivering a high staff‑to‑guest ratio while still feeling like a boutique yacht. All accommodations will be suites across every category, with expanded space, upgraded amenities and new design details yet to be revealed.
Onboard, guests can expect:
- Seven dining venues, including specialty restaurants and a new culinary studio for hands‑on classes and destination‑inspired programming.
- Five lounges and cocktail bars, plus two outdoor bars for sail‑away and stargazing moments.
- An expanded fitness and wellness centre, a large swimming pool and generous open‑deck space for sea‑day relaxation.
Despite the larger platform and broadened facilities, Atlas plans to retain the intimate, yacht‑style hospitality and expedition‑driven ethos that define its existing World Navigator, World Traveller and World Voyager ships.
Purpose‑Built for Deeper Expedition Experiences
Atlas Adventurer is being designed with extensive expedition hardware to support immersive off‑ship exploration. The yacht will carry Zodiacs and luxury motorboats, alongside a marina platform with an integrated ocean pool that enables easy access to the water.
These capabilities will be complemented by advanced navigational and stabilisation systems, ensuring smooth operations from polar seas to equatorial archipelagos. The ship’s quiet, low‑emission profile and compact footprint are also intended to facilitate access to exclusive, small ports and restricted destinations that are often off‑limits to larger, conventional cruise ships.
New Frontiers: Asia and Africa from Late 2028
Launching in late 2028, Atlas Adventurer will open up entirely new regions for Atlas Ocean Voyages, particularly in Asia and Africa. Early deployment plans include itineraries visiting:
- Asia: Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
- Africa: Seychelles, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa.
These routes will extend Atlas’s reach far beyond its existing polar and Atlantic programs, positioning Atlas Adventurer as a global exploration platform that can move seasonally between continents and climates.
