Virgin Australia has returned to New Zealand after an absence of nearly a thousand days. On 2 November, Virgin Australia resumed its New Zealand operations with flights from Sydney and Brisbane to Queenstown International Airport. On 4 November, two days later, regular service between Melbourne and Queenstown began.
Services in Sydney and Brisbane will run seven days a week, whereas those in Melbourne will run only four times a week (increasing to daily between 12 December 2022 – 29 January 2023).
Passengers on board Virgin Australia’s inaugural flight from Brisbane, were treated to “Peace Pavlovas” as a tribute to the friendly rivalry between Australians and New Zealanders over who invented the dessert.
Our first flight to New Zealand in nearly two years is a significant milestone for Virgin Australia,” said Jayne Hrdlicka, CEO of Virgin Australia Group.
As a result of the strong relationship between the two countries, “we are happy to be providing a new gateway between the countries to allow friends and family to see each other, businesses to thrive, and vacationers to seek adventure with more options and great value airfares.”
To deliver our value, choice, and great service to the people of Queenstown, we are happy to continue expanding our international network, which currently includes more than 500 destinations around the world. By working with the world’s best airlines, we can provide you with convenient and exciting vacation spots all over the world.
According to Alistair Hartley, Group Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for Virgin Australia, “high demand throughout our international network over the Christmas school holiday period” is something the company is just seeing.
“Our flights to Queenstown will increase to 21 per week between 12 December and 29 January, with a daily service operating from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to help meet the demand,” he added.
