United Airlines is redefining premium travel, offering an exclusive touch of luxury between flights. In collaboration with BMW of North America, United has introduced complimentary chauffeured tarmac transfers for select MileagePlus Premier members, driving passengers between connecting gates in all-electric BMW vehicles.
This unique program—first launched in May—has already completed over 14,000 transfers across United’s major U.S. hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. It’s a seamless connection between flights that feels more like a VIP experience than a transfer.
Upon arrival at the gate, select MileagePlus Premier members are greeted by a dedicated United Premier Services agent and escorted directly onto the tarmac, where a sleek BMW i7 xDrive60 sedan or BMW iX M70 SUV awaits. The ride to their next gate blends sustainability, luxury, and innovation—hallmarks of both United and BMW.
According to Richard Nunn, CEO of MileagePlus, this partnership highlights United’s commitment to delivering “seamless, premium journeys” that reduce travel stress while adding comfort and value. BMW’s all-electric vehicles align with United’s broader sustainability goals, combining energy efficiency with refined design and technology.
The fleet currently includes seven BMW i7 xDrive60 models and three BMW iX M70 performance SUVs. Both deliver exceptional all-electric power—up to 536hp in the i7 and 650hp in the iX—with ranges of more than 300 miles. The i7’s Rear Executive Lounge features a spectacular 31″ theatre screen, LED panoramic roof, and massaging seats, while the iX impresses with its Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and innovative glass roof that adjusts for privacy and comfort.
BMW of North America’s Executive Vice President of Operations, Shaun Bugbee, describes the collaboration as showcasing “what true luxury feels like in the modern era,” combining United’s first-class hospitality with BMW’s “Ultimate Electric Driving Machine.”
These transfers may last only a few minutes, but for MileagePlus Premier members, they epitomise effortless, elevated travel. Far beyond mere transportation, United’s new tarmac service makes even airport connections worth savouring.
