Rex Adds to Launch Perth-Adelaide Flights   

Rex Airlines, a rising star in Australia’s domestic aviation sector, has announced a significant expansion with the launch of thrice-weekly flights between Adelaide and Perth. This strategic move comes just three years after Rex’s entry into the domestic market and closely follows the introduction of their Melbourne-Perth service.

Starting from as low as $249 for a one-way economy fare, Rex will operate the new route using Embraer E-190 jets through its group member, National Jet Express (NJE). With headquarters in Perth and hubs across the country, including Adelaide and Brisbane, NJE is renowned as one of Australia’s top charter operators and a key component of the Rex Group.

Anthony Gibara, NJE Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the new service, which is now available for bookings for travel commencing on 28 June 2024. “This is terrific news for Perth and Adelaide travellers,” said Mr Gibara. “More operators mean more competition, and with Rex, it translates to better service and reliability.”

The announcement comes as competitors Virgin and Qantas have faced challenges on this route, with almost 85 cancelled flights in the first four months of 2024 alone. Rex promises to offer a more dependable alternative and plans to increase service frequency once established.

The new route marks the 12th domestic service for the Rex Group, which already connects major cities and popular destinations across Australia. The NJE Embraer E-190 jets, seating over 100 passengers, will be ticketed as Rex flights, further solidifying the airline’s domestic footprint.

South Australia’s Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison, welcomed the new service, highlighting its potential to attract more visitors from Western Australia, the state’s fourth-largest interstate market. “The commencement of an extra three flights a week from Perth to Adelaide is timed perfectly to coincide with the start of WA school holidays,” Ms Bettison remarked.

Western Australia’s Deputy Premier, Rita Saffioti, echoed the sentiment, noting the benefits for tourism and the warm reception expected from the industry. Adelaide Airport’s Managing Director, Brenton Cox, and Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer, Kate Holsgrove, praised Rex’s commitment to the market and its growth in the domestic sector.

With the new service set to begin just before the July school holidays, Rex is poised to fill a capacity gap and stimulate traffic volumes on this crucial route. The airline’s focus on providing value, including checked baggage and refreshments, positions it as a strong contender in the market.
