In a move that further strengthens Australia’s international connectivity, Qantas is set to introduce two exciting new routes from Perth, launching in December 2025. With direct services to Auckland and Johannesburg, these flights will provide travellers seamless access to New Zealand and South Africa, reflecting Qantas’ commitment to enhancing global links and driving economic growth.
Unlocking New Opportunities for Western Australia

The addition of over 155,000 new seats per year through these routes is expected to boost local tourism, create jobs, and provide West Australians with convenient travel options.
- Perth to Auckland (QF111) will operate three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday) with a flight time of approximately 6 hours 45 minutes. This service offers easy onward connections to New York via QF3, opening up long-haul travel opportunities.
- Perth to Johannesburg (QF65) will also fly three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday), taking 11 hours 15 minutes. The route strengthens Australia’s ties with South Africa, allowing passengers to connect to Cape Town and other destinations through Airlink’s network.
Government Support and Perth Airport Enhancements
The Federal Government has played a crucial role in enabling these routes, providing funding to the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to upgrade Perth Airport’s border security and biosecurity capabilities.
With more international arrivals expected, Perth Airport is evolving into a leading global hub, preparing for new terminal facilities at Airport Central, in line with Qantas’ planned relocation by 2031.
Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer at Perth Airport, highlighted the significance of this development:
“Perth is a dynamic, expanding hub with incredible growth opportunities. We remain focused on working with our airline partners to grow aviation connectivity and support Western Australia’s tourism industry.”
Further Enhancements Across the Qantas Network
The expansion doesn’t stop with Perth’s new routes. Qantas is also making strategic changes across its international operations, including:
- The return of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on daily Brisbane to Los Angeles flights (October 2025), increasing Premium Economy availability.
- Seasonal schedule adjustments with American Airlines, ensuring smooth
With fares available now on Qantas.com, the inaugural Perth to Johannesburg service is scheduled for 7 December 2025, followed by the Perth to Auckland service on 8 December 2025. Both routes will operate three times per week on a Qantas A330 aircraft configured with comfort and convenience in mind—27 business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration that convert into lie-flat beds, plus 224 economy seats.
For Australian travellers, these new routes not only offer more connectivity and comfort but also herald a new era of growth and opportunity, both for the airline and for Western Australia. With enhanced facilities, increased capacity, and strategic partnerships, the future of travel looks incredibly bright for those keen to explore the world right from their home base in Perth.
