The sky’s the limit for Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) as it accelerates its expansion with exciting new routes, increased frequencies, and a next-level in-flight experience. This bold move not only strengthens the group’s footprint across Asia and beyond, but also paves the way for Malaysia Airlines to become a global top 10 airline by 2030.
Starting 9 January 2026, Malaysia Airlines will resume daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. This marks a significant re-entry into the fast-growing Chengdu market, adding to its extensive Greater China network, which includes Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, and Taipei. With business and leisure travel flourishing, and a new reciprocal visa-free arrangement between China and Malaysia, this route is perfectly poised for success.
Meanwhile, Firefly, MAG’s regional carrier, will launch services from Kuala Lumpur to Krabi, Siem Reap, and Cebu starting in November 2025. With flights running from 3 to 7 times a week, Firefly is enhancing ASEAN connectivity, allowing leisure and business travellers seamless access to popular tropical and cultural destinations across Southeast Asia.
MAG is also turbocharging its existing services, increasing flight frequencies across key markets including Australia, New Zealand, China, India, the Maldives, and Bangladesh. Firefly will boost domestic and regional connections to hotspots like Singapore, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, and Johor Bahru — making travel easier and more convenient than ever before.
In-flight dining is taking a delicious leap forward, too. Malaysia Airlines introduces its first vegetarian satay, made from succulent Lion’s Mane mushroom, served with the airline’s signature marinade, cucumber, and fresh onion. Available in Business Suite and Business Class, this plant-based delicacy combines innovation with traditional Malaysian warmth.
To support this ambitious growth, MAG is steadily modernising its fleet. The arrival of the A330neo on select Australia and New Zealand routes offers passengers enhanced comfort and fuel efficiency, while reinforcing the group’s commitment to sustainability. By early 2026, Malaysia Airlines will operate the youngest widebody fleet in the Australasia region, a milestone reflecting both environmental focus and service excellence.
MAG’s customer experience upgrades don’t stop there. The group recently introduced an AI-powered virtual assistant, “Maya,” to personalise and elevate passenger service. Additionally, on-time performance has increased to an impressive 87.3% as of July 2025, with customer satisfaction continuing to rise steadily.
As the official airline partner and premier sponsor of MATTA Fair 2025, MAG will showcase these network expansions, in-flight innovations, and digital experiences at this September’s three-day event in Kuala Lumpur, offering travellers exclusive insights and offers.
From expanded destinations and more flights to elevated dining and cutting-edge service, Malaysia Aviation Group and Malaysia Airlines are redefining travel in Asia and beyond. With their sights set high, the future of flying just got a whole lot brighter.
