Big news in the aviation world — Lufthansa has just welcomed the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fitted with its coveted Allegris cabins, and it’s set to operate out of Frankfurt later this year. This milestone marks the start of a new chapter in Lufthansa’s long-haul travel experience, and the excitement is palpable.
After unveiling the Allegris cabin concept back in 2022 and successfully rolling it out on Airbus A350 aircraft from Munich in 2024, Lufthansa is now bringing the premium Allegris experience to its Frankfurt hub. The brand-new Dreamliner, fresh from Seattle and wearing the registration D-ABPF, landed at Frankfurt Airport in late August and will begin flying passengers between Frankfurt and Toronto starting mid-October.

What’s all the fuss about Allegris? This isn’t just a cabin refresh — it’s an all-new way to fly long-haul in style and comfort. From private Business Class Suites that boast chest-high walls, a 27-inch entertainment screen, ample storage, and even a personal minibar, to redesigned Premium Economy and Economy seats, every inch of the cabin spells luxury and thoughtful design. While a full certification process is still underway for all Allegris Business Class seats on the Dreamliner, travellers can already book suites, along with premium economy and economy seats.
Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, put it perfectly: “I am particularly pleased that we can now offer our guests the premium Allegris experience in Frankfurt. The arrival of the Boeing 787-9 today signals a major boost in modernizing our long-haul fleet at our largest hub. This means quieter, more fuel-efficient aircraft packed with the latest technology — exactly what our guests deserve.”
The Dreamliner itself is a marvel of modern engineering, consuming about 25% less fuel per passenger than its predecessors, which aligns with Lufthansa’s push towards sustainability. By the end of 2025, up to nine more Boeing 787-9s equipped with Allegris cabins are expected to join the Frankfurt fleet, part of the most considerable long-haul fleet modernisation in Lufthansa’s history. In total, the airline plans to operate 78 modern long-haul aircraft featuring Allegris cabins in the coming years.

But Lufthansa isn’t stopping at just the physical cabin. Ahead of its 100th anniversary next year, the airline is rolling out the “Future Onboard Experience” — a project aimed at redefining every detail of long-haul service. From the culinary offerings and tableware to pillows, blankets, amenity kits, and overall onboard service, Lufthansa is committing to delivering a next-level flying experience for all its passengers.
So, if flying in a sophisticated private suite with thoughtful touches to every aspect of the journey sounds like the future, then Lufthansa’s Allegris-equipped Dreamliner from Frankfurt to Toronto is where the excitement begins. Meanwhile, the journey toward the airline’s full vision of a reimagined long-haul experience is well underway and promises to turn heads in the world of premium travel.
