Garuda Indonesia held a ceremony at Melbourne Airport last week, marking the resumption of direct flights between Melbourne and Indonesia.
Speeches by Garuda Indonesia’s CEO, the Indonesian Consul General and Melbourne Airport’s Chief of Aviation were followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was attended by Consular dignitaries, media, senior Garuda Indonesia management, airline partners and passengers waiting to board the flight to Jakarta.
The speeches touched on Garuda Indonesia’s inaugural flight to Australia on the very same day 53 years ago, network connections to other famous Indonesian destinations and the boosting of trade and education between the two countries.
With the resumption of the Melbourne – Jakarta route today and the Melbourne – Denpasar route in early December, Garuda Indonesia will operate a total of 14 weekly flights to/from Sydney and Melbourne.
Flight GA716 will depart Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta International Airport every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 21:00hrs LT, arriving at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport at 07:35hrs LT the next morning. The return flight GA717 will depart Melbourne at 09:10hrs LT every Thursday and Sunday, arriving back in Jakarta at 12:15hrs LT in time for connecting flights to other destinations.
