Bonza has announced that it will use Gold Coast Airport as its third hub, adding flights to 11 already serviced destinations.
Albury, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Melbourne Avalon, Melbourne Tullamarine, Mildura, Rockhampton, Townsville, and the Whitsunday Coast will all be serviced by two Boeing 737s from the Australian airline.
As a result of Bonza’s further expansion, Gold Coast Airport will experience an increase of 70 weekly flights and nearly 700,000 annual passenger seats as a direct result of this expansion.
“Today’s announcement is about creating more depth in our network by connecting existing Bonza destinations with the Gold Coast and also the gateway from there to Northern NSW,” Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said.
“It is a huge boost for the economy and allows people in our existing destinations to book an affordable flight to Gold Coast Airport and take a well-deserved holiday or long-awaited visit to friends and family.” “New routes from the Gold Coast also mean locals from South Brisbane down to Northern NSW regions, such as Ballina and Byron Bay, can explore their backyard with low-cost flights to regional locations such as Mildura, Bundy, and Townsend.”
Amelia Evans, the CEO of Queensland Airports Limited, said that the newly formed partnership would enormously benefit the region’s economy, surpassing $100 million.
“Our network has recently added several new routes that offer competitive pricing, which is highly beneficial for both our valued customers and visitors to our region,” she stated.
The airline will soon offer discounted flights through its mobile application, with initial prices ranging from $49 to $79 per person for one-way journeys.
Tim Jordan added recruitment for roles at the Gold Coast will commence soon.
“Our new base means pilots and cabin crew who live here can come home after a day’s flying and enjoy the lifestyle that the region has to offer.
He went on to say that Bonza has been working closely with Queensland Airports Limited for some time as they operate Townsville Airport where Bonza flies to from the Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton and Toowoomba Wellcamp.
“We thank Gold Coast Airport, and the broader Queensland Airports Limited team, for their partnership in bringing more purple to our skies,” he said.
