It marked a momentous occasion as Jetstar launched its first-ever flight from Melbourne to Hervey Bay, a route previously uncharted by any airline. This thrice-weekly service aboard the Airbus A320 is set to offer over 1,100 low-fare seats each week, connecting Melbournians directly to the wonders of Queensland’s Fraser Coast.
In collaboration with the Fraser Coast Council, Jetstar’s new route celebrates exploration and accessibility. Jetstar offers one-way fares starting from just $151 to commemorate this historic launch, available on [jetstar.com].
As Jetstar commemorates its 20th year of operation, this new direct flight is a testament to the airline’s enduring mission: to enable more people to travel to more places more frequently at affordable prices. Jenn Armor, Jetstar’s Executive Manager of Customers, expressed the airline’s excitement about introducing Melbournians to a fresh Queensland locale. “We’re thrilled to provide a direct passage to Hervey Bay, a true Victorian secret,” she said. “It’s the perfect winter escape, offering serene beaches ideal for families, access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, and some of the world’s finest whale watching.”
The Deputy Mayor of Fraser Coast, Cr Paul Truscott, echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting the new route’s potential to forge lasting connections and invite southerners to discover the Fraser Coast’s charm. “This is more than a flight; it’s an invitation to new experiences and economic prosperity for our region,” he stated.
Martin Simons, General Manager of Fraser Coast Tourism & Events, also remarked on the unique allure of the region. “The Fraser Coast offers an immediate immersion into untouched wilderness, just a short journey from the airport. With World Heritage Listed K’gari and Lady Elliot Island nearby, visitors can enjoy pristine beaches, rainforest trails, crystal-clear lakes, and exceptional reef diving.”
