In a remarkable display of consistency and reliability, Rex has been crowned Australia’s most reliable airline for the 16th consecutive month, according to data released by the Bureau of Infrastructure Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE).
January’s on-time performance results reveal that Rex was at the top of the leaderboard for both on-time departures and cancellation rates. Out of Rex Group’s 5,200 domestic and regional flights, an overwhelming 80.9% departed on time. This is a significant achievement, marking the first time any airline group has crossed the 80% on-time mark since Rex achieved 83.3% of on-time departures in January 2023.
The Qantas Group could only manage a 74.9% on-time departure rate, while the Virgin Australia Group continued to languish below the 70% mark. The disparity in performance is even more stark when considering cancellation rates. Rex cancelled a mere 0.6% of flights, while Qantas’ cancellation rate was 300% higher. Virgin Australia’s cancellation rate was even more shocking, 780% higher than Rex’s.
Rex’s Executive Chairman, Lim Kim Hai, commented on the results, stating, “Rex achieved its low cancellation rate and high degree of on-time performance on the same routes in similar weather conditions and times, with the same air traffic control problems. One can draw only one of two conclusions from the disgraceful cancellation rates of the two major carriers. Either they are grossly incompetent or deliberately hoard airport slots by scheduling flights they do not intend to fly.”
He added, “In either case, the travelling public pays the price for its misplaced loyalty.”
This consistent performance by Rex is a testament to their commitment to providing reliable and efficient customer service. It also raises questions about other major carriers’ operational efficiency and customer-centric approach. As the airline industry continues to navigate the challenges posed by the global pandemic, the importance of reliability and on-time performance cannot be overstated.
As Rex continues to set the bar high, how other airlines will respond to this challenge remains to be seen. Will they step up their game to match Rex’s performance, or will they continue disappointing their loyal customers with subpar service? Only time will tell. But for now, Rex is flying high, leading the way in Australia’s aviation industry.
