The Thai government reversed last week’s decision that arriving travellers would not be required to show proof that they have received the complete set of covid-19 vaccinations or that they have medical reasons not to. However, the need for travellers whose next destination requires a negative covid test to carry travel insurance will remain in effect.
Mr Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health stated, “International visitors coming in Thailand are not required to show proof of vaccination.”
Until 31 March 2023, the term of stay for visitors from visa-exempt countries/territories is increased to 45 days (from 30 days) and 30 days (from 15 days) for those qualified for a Visa on Arrival (VOA).
Furthermore, overseas visitors are not needed to show ATK or RT-PCR test results.
Tourism Authority of Thailand anticipates tourism rebound to continue in 2023, with a target of 25 million foreign tourists – more than double the 11.5 million visitors registered in 2022 – and a return to more than half of the 40 million international arrivals in 2019.
Thailand aims to adhere to these nations’ standards and does need COVID insurance for tourists from these countries or travellers to Thailand who wants to return to these countries if they test positive while in Thailand.
Tourists worldwide are encouraged to enjoy the kingdom’s excellent existing and new tourism experiences, goods, and services through the ‘Visit Thailand Year 2023: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign. China and India are two examples.
