Monkeypox: US declares public health emergency

The federal authorities have designated the monkeypox outbreak in the United States as a public health emergency following an increase in cases. According to health officials, as many as 6,600 people in the United States have contracted the disease.

Vaccines, medicines, and federal resources will be distributed more quickly as a result of the decision.

The WHO issued its highest emergency alert less than a fortnight following a worldwide infection spike.

About a fifth of the cases has been reported in New York, which declared its state of emergency last week due to the outbreak.

In the United States and internationally, health officials have urged that those most at risk of infection, such as gay and bisexual males and certain members of the medical profession, receive the vaccine as a matter of priority.

According to health officials, guys who have sex with other men are more likely to contract the disease.

Politicians say that not enough is being done to protect the LGBT community in cities like San Francisco.

When Covid-19 first appeared, there were no monkeypox vaccinations. While the vaccine has been widely advertised, some describe huge line-ups and being turned away because there are just not enough shots to go around.

If Mr. Biden had announced a national state of emergency sooner, some doubt whether it would have been enough to stop the spread of Ebola.

On Monday, the city of San Francisco declared a public health emergency. During the 1980s, when the city was allegedly abandoned during the HIV/AIDS crisis.

According to reports released on Thursday, vaccines and treatments for monkeypox are scarce across the country.

Orders for more than five million additional doses were announced by the Department of Health and Human Services last week and will be supplied through May next year.

The White House also stated earlier this week that a team had been established to manage and coordinate the national monkeypox response.
