Emirates has further upgraded the smart contactless journey for its passengers by introducing touchless check-in kiosks at Dubai International airport.
The airline launched the 16 self-check-in and 32 self-service bag drop kiosks in September last year but has now gone a step further, allowing passengers to control the machines from their mobile devices.
The kiosks allow customers to check-in, receive their boarding pass, choose seats on board, and drop off their bags. Passengers can also now make payments for extra purchases, such as additional baggage allowance, via the kiosk.
The self-check-in kiosks are located at the Economy check-in area at Terminal 3 and are designed to reduce the waiting time for customers during peak periods. The service is available to customers travelling to all destinations except the US, Canada, China, India, and Hong Kong – these destinations require additional measures.
Emirates has stated that it plans to introduce more kiosks for the First and Business Class check-in areas.
Last year the airline introduced an integrated biometric path, allowing its customers to experience a contactless travel journey through the airport. Through the use of facial biometric technology, passengers can check-in for their flight, complete immigration forms, enter the lounge, and board their flights.
The Emirates app also allows customers to create a playlist from the IFE and sync it to their personal screens on board. The airline states that passengers will be able to control their viewing experience on the IFE screens from their personal devices “in the coming months”.
Meanwhile, the airline recently announced its plans to offer a new discounted Covid-19 pre-departure testing service for its customers.
