A New Chapter on Europe’s Rivers
There’s something undeniably romantic about a river ship christening in Vienna—and APT Travel Group delivered exactly that with the unveiling of APT Ostara. Already sailing since June 2025, this next-generation luxury river ship was officially christened in a celebration that blended heritage, family legacy and forward-thinking design.
Set against the elegance of Austria’s capital, the event marked more than just tradition—it signalled the future of luxury river cruising.
A Celebration of Legacy and Luxury
Guests gathered on the Sun Deck for canapés and drinks before Family Principal and Director Lou Tandy addressed the crowd, reflecting on the significance of the moment. The ceremony itself was rich in symbolism, with Tandy’s daughter stepping in as Godmother to bless the ship—bridging generations in a family business nearing its centenary.
The classic champagne bottle break against the hull officially welcomed APT Ostara into the fleet, followed by a gala dinner and a night of champagne, cocktails and entertainment.
As Tandy shared during the ceremony, the ship represents both continuity and evolution—honouring the past while designing for the next generation of travellers.
Designed for the Modern Luxury Traveller

With space for just 154 guests, APT Ostara is intentionally intimate, echoing the refined experience of her sister ship, APT Solara. Interiors by acclaimed Melbourne studio Hecker Guthrie bring understated sophistication to every corner, creating a floating boutique hotel feel.
Standout features include:
- Expansive Balcony and Owner’s Suites for elevated comfort
- The Grüner Bar & Dining, which rises hydraulically to reveal 360-degree views
- Six dining venues plus in-suite dining, offering regionally inspired cuisine that evolves with the seasons
It’s thoughtful, design-led luxury—where every detail enhances the journey rather than distracts from it.
APT’s Vision for the Future

CEO David Cox described Ostara and Solara as a reflection of nearly 100 years of expertise combined with a clear commitment to innovation and growth. These ships are not just additions to the fleet—they’re a statement of intent.
For luxury travellers, this means more immersive itineraries, elevated onboard experiences and a continued focus on personalised service.
Why It Matters for Luxury Travellers

If you’re seeking a European river cruise that feels contemporary yet deeply rooted in tradition, APT Ostara offers a compelling option. It’s not just about where you go—it’s how you experience it: slower, more intimate, and undeniably refined.
