According to the most recent data published by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE), Rex has been named Australia’s most reliable and punctual domestic airline for 2023.
According to the most recent performance data, most of Australia’s airlines again disappointed holiday visitors in December, which revealed another month of cancellations and delays.
There was an increase of 1.6 percentage points from 2022 to last month, with 5% of flights being cancelled, according to on-time performance statistics from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE).
Knowledge that while its cancellation rate is 600% greater than Rex’s, it can still claim that it is not at the bottom of the scale since the Virgin Group’s cancellation rate is 1,150% higher.
The Rex Group had the highest percentage of on-time departures (74%), followed by the Qantas Group (67%) and the Virgin Group (57%). The December statistics are consistent with the results for the calendar year 2023, demonstrating Rex’s superior dependability compared to other domestic carriers.
“To maintain such high-reliability rates is no mean feat, especially in the continued challenging environment still plaguing the aviation industry throughout 2023,” said Deputy Chairman, the Hon John Sharp AM. “Rex always does the right thing by its passengers, unlike Qantas and Virgin Australia. For example, one main contributing factor to the shocking cancellation rates is the deliberate scheduling of flights they never intended to fly in and out of Sydney to squat on the slots.
They then cancel them at the last minute to game the slots system, ignoring the pain and suffering caused to hundreds of thousands of passengers yearly.” “The numbers speak for themselves.”
Qantas’s performance in December was poorer, although it still ranked first among major airlines with 67.8%, when compared to December 2022, when it had 73% on-time arrivals,
Regarding departures, the national carrier had a similar scenario, achieving 70.2%, down from 71.9% in 2022. The cancellation rate was 2.7%, slightly lower than the 2.9% in 2022.
With on-time arrivals at 54% (down from 67.4% in 2022) and on-time departures at 56.5% (down from 67.5%), Virgin, Australia’s second-largest airline, had a particularly rough December.
There was a significant increase in cancellations, reaching 7.7% compared to 3.4% in December 2022.
Among domestic airlines, Bonza had the highest cancellation rate at 19.4%. The airline also had the lowest rates of on-time arrivals at 55% and departures at 52.6%.
That equates to nearly half of Bonza’s December flights experiencing some delay or cancellation.
