The international air transport rating organisation Skytrax has named Qatar Airways “Airline of the Year” for an unprecedented seventh time as it celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2022.
The world’s leading airline also received three more accolades during a glitzy ceremony in London, including World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining, and Best Airline in the Middle East. In 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and now 2022, Qatar Airways was named ‘Airline of the Year.’
The famous 2022 Skytrax awards are highly sought after in the business because of its reputation as the gold standard for distinction and performance. Qatar Airways’ home airport and hub, Hamad International Airport, was just named the World’s Best Airport 2022 for the second year in a row, allowing customers to relax and enjoy their journeys knowing they are flying with the World’s Best Airline through the World’s Best Airport.
For the sixth year in a row, the airline’s premium cabin, which includes the unique Qsuite, has been named World’s Best Business Class, while the Al Mourjan lounge has been recognised for its excellent culinary quality and has been named World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining.
In a further affirmation of its leadership role not only in global aviation but also in a highly competitive region, Qatar Airways was named the Best Airline in the Middle East, a strong acknowledgement of its reputation for excellence, a strong global network, leading global partnerships, and every passenger journey involving Hamad International Airport.
His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, said: “Being named the World’s Best Airline was always a goal when Qatar Airways was created, but to win it for the seventh time and pick up three additional awards is a testament to all of the hard work of our incredible employees.”
“Their ongoing devotion and determination ensure that our guests enjoy the finest possible experience while flying with Qatar Airways.” Winning these accolades the same year we celebrate our 25th anniversary is even more gratifying. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our passengers who voted for us. Every day, your support propels us to new heights; we appreciate your commitment and strive to deliver once-in-a-lifetime moments when you fly with Qatar Airways.”
The awards, dubbed “the Oscars of the Aviation Industry,” covered the 12 months from September 2021 to August 2022, with over 14 million qualifying submissions tallied in the results, during which Qatar Airways expanded its worldwide network back to over 150 destinations. In January 2021, the airline became the first global airline to earn the Skytrax COVID-19 Safety Rating.
