Qantas is accelerating its global lounge refurbishment program, with major redevelopment set to begin at the Sydney International business class lounge this December, while the impressive new Auckland International lounge opens just in time for the Christmas and peak holiday travel season.
Sydney International Business Lounge: Major Upgrade Ahead of Project Sunrise
From 8 December, the Sydney International Business Lounge enters the second phase of its major construction. Recent exterior extension works pave the way for an enhanced experience ahead of Qantas’ ultra-long-haul Project Sunrise flights to New York and London in 2027. The Sydney lounge upgrade will increase seating capacity by over 30%, offering premium flyers more space, comfort, and choice than ever before.

Travellers will enjoy a brand new 150sqm outdoor terrace for fresh air and natural light before boarding, as well as a show kitchen serving signature plated menu options, and a hosted bar with barista-made coffee and curated drinks. Flexible zones, quiet workspaces, shared social areas—and enhanced connectivity, including wireless charging and USB-C power stations fitted to over 80% of seats, ensure productivity and relaxation in equal measure.
During the lounge’s redevelopment, Qantas customers will benefit from uninterrupted service with access to a new temporary Qantas International Business Lounge or the Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal 1.
Auckland International Lounge: Opens 17 December for Trans-Tasman Travellers

Meanwhile, Qantas’s completely redesigned and expanded Auckland International Lounge opens on 17 December, setting a new standard for travellers across the Tasman and on the sought-after direct Auckland–New York route. The Auckland lounge precinct features stylish, spacious areas, premium dining options, and bespoke seating zones—a welcome upgrade for Qantas’ expanding trans-Tasman network, including new flights between Adelaide and Auckland and the newly launched Auckland to Perth service.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace says, “As the demand for premium travel increases, we’re creating more space, more dining options, and a completely enhanced on-ground experience in our new Sydney International Business Lounge and Auckland International Lounge. The new Auckland lounge will transform the experience for our international customers pre-flight.”
The airline continues to update its lounge precinct globally, with further investments underway at the Los Angeles business class lounge and regional domestic lounges throughout Australia—meeting surging demand for premium travel and direct routes.
