Qantas travellers, rejoice—comfort just got a major upgrade! As Qantas continues to modernise its fleet and redefine flying for Aussies, the new Qantas Economy Plus cabin is the latest innovation that promises a better, brighter experience, especially for short-haul international flights. From February 2026, whether you’re jetting to New Zealand, Fiji, or zipping across the country, you’ll be able to enjoy more legroom, more choice, and more value.
What’s New with Economy Plus?
No longer do you have to squeeze into tight rows or jostle for overhead space on popular short-haul routes. Qantas Economy Plus delivers:
- Up to 40% more legroom so you can stretch out, whether you’re heading to Auckland for business or south to the islands for a holiday.
- Priority boarding and overhead bin access, making the start (and end) of your trip smoother—no more frantic scrambles for space.
- Seats located towards the front of the economy cabin, giving you a speedier exit once you’ve landed.
This new seating category will roll out across the Qantas Airbus A321XLR, A220 and Boeing 737 fleet, covering both domestic routes and international hops to favourite destinations across the Tasman and into the Pacific.
A Win for Frequent Flyers
Frequent flyers and Qantas loyalists are in for even more perks—high-tier members (Platinum and above) get complimentary Economy Plus when booking, while Gold members can snag a seat for free at check-in. Every week, over 21,000 prime seats are already reserved by members, but now you get even more comfort and flexibility as part of your loyalty benefits.
Why Does This Matter for Short-Haul International Travellers?
- Better rest on flights under four hours: More legroom isn’t just about space—it means you arrive more refreshed and less cramped, whether it’s a Sydney-to-Wellington meeting or a quick hop for a weekend island escape.
- Simpler boarding, less stress: With faster boarding and guaranteed overhead space, you can focus on enjoying your trip rather than worrying about queues or cabin chaos.
- Flexible travel options: Choose how you want to fly—standard economy, extra-legroom Economy Plus, or even further up front if you like. It’s about tailoring your journey for how you want to travel.
Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said it best: “This is an evolution of our Economy offering and delivers more choice for our customers while recognising our most loyal frequent flyers with expanded benefits, in the areas we know they value most.”
Coming Soon—Book Yours Early
Qantas Economy Plus will be available to purchase from February 2026, with pricing details to come. It’s just another sign that Qantas is listening and innovating—not just for long-haul, but for every journey that starts Down Under.
So next time you’re booking that quick break across the ditch or a business hop to the Pacific, look out for Economy Plus—where extra space, comfort and priority perks come standard.
