There’s a new icon in luxury travel—and it’s about to roll through landscapes few have had the privilege to explore. The Dream of the Desert, dubbed “the most beautiful train in the world,” will soon sweep across the untamed expanses of Saudi Arabia, bringing together Italian artistry, Arabian culture, and a fresh era for premium rail journeys.
Ultra-Luxury On Board

Carrying just 66 guests, this extraordinary train boasts a mere 31 private suites and two sweeping presidential suites across 14 carriages. Everything screams exclusivity: two dining cars hosting menus crafted by top local and international chefs, a plush Majlis lounge for unwinding, and cabins adorned in carved wood, oasis-coloured textiles, and glowing Murano glass lamps reminiscent of traditional Saudi lanterns. Gourmet journeys, fine wines, and desert vistas await at every turn, all framed by interiors shaped by renowned architect Aline Asmar d’Amman—elegantly fusing contemporary Italian flair with deep-rooted Saudi heritage.
A Journey Like No Other
The Dream of the Desert will depart from Riyadh, winding its way north to Al Jouf, via specially curated itineraries. No ordinary rail adventure, each trip—spanning one or two nights—will whisk its elite guests through UNESCO World Heritage sites, mysterious new destinations, private lounge stops, and immersive activities. The aim? Genuine exploration, with a window onto the wonders, history, and little-known treasures of Saudi Arabia.
Italian Excellence Meets Arabian Hospitality

Built entirely by Italy’s Arsenale S.p.A., masterminds behind the famed La Dolce Vita Orient Express, this train reflects the best of both worlds: Italian craftsmanship and Saudi warmth. Fabricated in Brindisi and Bergamo, the project was unveiled at Riyadh’s Future Investment Initiative—Saudi Arabia’s answer to Davos—showing the Kingdom’s ambition to lead the way in global luxury tourism.
Press previews have already showcased the first carriage mockup, shipped direct from Italy to Saudi Arabia in September. The Dream of the Desert wouldn’t exist without partnerships with Saudi Arabia Railways, the Ministries of Transport and Culture, and the Saudi Tourism Authority.
Expanding Horizons: More Luxury Rails to Come

And it doesn’t stop here. Arsenale, together with regional partners, is also developing luxury trains for the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan (the forthcoming Samarkand Express) and Egypt (the Guardian of the Nile). The Dream of the Desert, though, will be the first of its kind in the Middle East, forging a benchmark for ultra-high-end tourism in the region.
When Does the Dream Begin?
The Dream of the Desert goes “wheels up” at the end of 2026, setting a new standard for those who seek adventure with serene luxury, genuine cultural immersion and matchless service. For any passionate travellers out there, this train promises to transform how we experience the desert—making Saudi Arabia a must-visit for those who dream big and travel beautifully.
