After years of meticulous planning and construction, Disney Cruise Line is set to open the doors to its latest marvel, Disney Lookout Cay, at Lighthouse Point. This new private island destination, nestled on the picturesque island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, is ready to welcome its inaugural guests on 7 June 2024. It offers an exclusive slice of paradise.
The journey to this momentous occasion began in April 2022, and now, after two years, the island has been transformed into a vibrant retreat that embodies the spirit of the Bahamas. On 30 May 2024, Disney Cruise Line executives, Bahamian Government officials, and local community members convened for a grand ceremony to mark the completion of this ambitious project.
Thomas Mazloum, President of New Experiences Portfolio and Disney Signature Experiences, shared his enthusiasm: “Our collaboration with the Bahamian community has been instrumental in bringing our second island destination to fruition. Today’s celebration with government and local leaders signifies the realisation of our shared vision for Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.”
The Goombay Cultural Centre, located opposite Lookout Cay, served as the venue for the ceremony, offering attendees a preview of the ‘Junkanoo’ festival experience that inspired the island’s design. The event featured traditional performances, local cuisine, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse special appearances, donning their new Bahamas-inspired outfits.
Prime Minister Philip Davis of the Bahamas highlighted the symbiotic relationship between Disney and the Bahamas, praising Disney’s commitment to authenticity and sustainability. He emphasised the economic benefits, including creating approximately 200 jobs for locals and the involvement of the South Eleuthera community in crafting an authentic tourist experience.
Disney Lookout Cay promises a rich cultural immersion, with opportunities to engage in traditional Junkanoo festivities, relax on pristine beaches, and partake in various water sports and excursions. The Disney Magic, the venerable flagship of Disney’s fleet, will be honoured to transport the first guests to the island on a preview cruise departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on 6 June 2024.
The official inaugural voyage to Lighthouse Point will be undertaken by the Disney Fantasy, which will set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, on 8 June 2024. The seven-night journey will feature two visits to Lookout Cay, stopping in Nassau and Castaway Cay, Disney’s first private island.
With 163 cruises already scheduled between June 2024 and September 2025 and more on the horizon, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is poised to become a cherished destination for Disney Cruise Line guests seeking an enchanting escape infused with the magic of Disney and the warmth of Bahamian hospitality.
