Celebrating a remarkable achievement, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has been honoured by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the 72 best hotels and resorts in the world, earning a place on the prestigious Gold List 2025. This 123-year-old luxury icon is the only hotel in Vietnam to receive this esteemed recognition.
A Legacy of Excellence
The Metropole Hanoi, hailed by Condé Nast Traveler’s editors as “a dazzling destination that flashes back beautifully to a bygone age,” has continuously set the benchmark for luxury and excellence in global hospitality. This accolade, part of Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List, which has been a hallmark of hospitality excellence for 31 years, highlights the hotel’s enduring legacy and charm.
Editors praised the hotel’s classical white façade and its two distinct buildings: the recently renovated Heritage Wing and the neoclassical Opera Wing, named for its proximity to the Hanoi Opera House. Enveloping a serene courtyard garden and sparkling pool, the Metropole offers a tranquil retreat in the heart of Hanoi’s bustling French Quarter.
Historic Grandeur
The hotel’s historic suites, named after famous former guests like Charlie Chaplin and novelist Graham Greene, exude old-world grandeur. This blend of historical charm and modern luxury makes the Metropole Hanoi an essential stop for travellers planning a trip to Vietnam’s capital.
Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi General Manager George Koumendakos expressed pride in the recognition. “This is a tremendous honour from Condé Nast Traveler and a recognition of what makes the Grand Dame of Vietnam so special: our rich history, our elegant and sophisticated accommodations, and our uncompromising commitment to warm and personalised service,” he said.
A Year of Accolades
This latest award follows other major recognitions for Metropole Hanoi in 2024. The hotel earned a Five-Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide in February, marking the fifth consecutive year of receiving this highest level of recognition. In May, it was also named one of the “World’s 500 Best Hotels” by Travel + Leisure magazine.
The Heritage Wing, with 103 guest rooms and suites, reopened late last year after a meticulous 21-month restoration project. This comprehensive renovation centred on preserving the original wing’s historical significance while enhancing its luxury appeal.
