Qatar Airways is expanding its network by increasing flight frequency on its Adelaide service beginning 1 July. The airline is increasing the number of flights per week between Doha and Adelaide and Auckland from three to five, offering greater connection for South Australia to the rest of the world.
The increase will also enable a similar rise for the Adelaide-New Zealand route.
“It is terrific to see access to South Australia improve and to hear travel demand is increasing as the world opens up,” Premier Peter Malinauskas said on Monday.
“More flights imply more leisure and business visitors, increased freight capacity, and improved connectivity for our state to the rest of the world, all of which contribute to job growth and economic growth.”
The increase in flights, according to Qatar Airways Vice President Jared Lee, is an encouraging sign for the travel industry amid a solid resurgence of demand.
“The Australia and New Zealand region is a key growth area for Qatar Airways,” he said.
According to Brenton Cox, Managing Director of Adelaide Airport, development in both international and domestic networks is strong, with the number of domestic flights to and from Adelaide now reaching pre-pandemic levels.
Qatar Airways launched its Adelaide service in 2016, flying the first Airbus A350 into Australia. The route, which is now operated by a B777-300ER, connects Doha to Adelaide and then to Auckland. With the addition of the two weekly flights, the airline will now provide 38 weekly trips to Australia. The development will also make it easier for New Zealand travellers to visit South Australia.
