United Airlines is redefining comfort in the skies with the United Relax Row — an innovative new seating concept set to debut in 2027. For the first time, economy passengers on long-haul flights will be able to transform a row of three standard seats into a lie-flat couch, offering a private, cozy space to stretch out, sleep, or relax mid-flight.
The United Relax Row℠ will feature adjustable leg rests that fold up at a 90-degree angle, creating a flexible, mattress-like surface ideal for families with small children, couples, or solo travellers seeking more comfort without upgrading to a premium cabin. To enhance the experience, each Relax Row guest receives a custom-fitted mattress pad, specially sized blankets, extra pillows, and even a plush toy and Children’s Travel Kit for younger flyers.
As the first North American airline to introduce this kind of transformable seating concept, United holds exclusive regional rights to the design — reinforcing its commitment to making long-haul economy travel more enjoyable. The product will roll out progressively on more than 200 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777 aircraft by 2030, with up to 12 Relax Row sections per aircraft, positioned between United Economy and United Premium Plus®.
Andrew Nocella, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, explained:
“Customers travelling in United Economy on long-haul flights deserve an option for more space and comfort, and the United Relax Row delivers exactly that. United is the only North American airline offering this product — and it’s one of the many reasons travellers continue choosing us.”
Beyond the new Relax Row, United continues to champion family-friendly flying innovations. The airline offers free family seating, ensuring children under 12 sit next to an accompanying adult at booking, without extra fees. Parents can also pre-order kids’ meals like French toast or grilled cheese on select flights and enjoy a curated family entertainment library featuring favourites such as Bluey, Paw Patrol, and Zootopia 2. United’s Children’s Travel Kit, created with Sesame Street, adds extra fun with interactive games and calming tools to keep little travellers happily occupied.
The introduction of the United Relax Row marks a turning point in how airlines approach comfort and flexibility in economy travel — blending practicality, family appeal, and a thoughtful design ethos that improves the journey for everyone onboard.
